Kings Meaburn is a small farming village 5 miles
west of Appleby
the old county town of Westmorland, and 10 miles south of Penrith.
The area around the Cottages is a haven for wildlife. This Kingfisher was snapped by a guest staying at Well Tree Cottage.
Appleby lies in a loop of the river Eden and is overlooked by the Pennine range with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon, just a few miles away.
The town is an ideal centre for tourists of all types and is the starting point for many dozens of walks over the surrounding fell countryside.
Penrith is a welcoming market town with beautiful red sandstone buildings, fascinating yards and alleyways to discover, and pleasant open spaces.
There are several bridleways and footpaths in the area with quiet country
lanes to peruse at your leisure.
The Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Pennines are close by. A little further afield, but well within reach for a day trip, are the Scottish Borders and Hadrian's Wall, stretching from Carlisle to Newcastle.
